About the Artist

Jared Coles grew up in a small California farming town, surrounded by Orange, Olive, and Walnut groves, and overshadowed on the east by the towering Sierra Nevada Mountains. It was a camping family, and summers always included forests and mountains, including backpacking through the alpine zones. He crossed the Sierra and summited Mount Whitney at 13. Interested in art early on, he has always been creating. After his grandfather, a pipe smoker, passed away in 2006, Jared took up pipe smoking in his honor.

In 2009, while at University of California at Irvine, he began to explore the art of pipemaking. On December 31st, 2009, he crafted his first pipe at a cabin in Yosemite with his friend John Klose. Jared and John would later go on to form a pipemaking partnership, J&J Pipes, which produced excellent pipes from 2011-2015.

In 2016, the pair dissolved the operation, and Jared struck out on his own, using the skills acquired during that time to take the artistry to new heights. Since then, Jared has cemented his place in the American pantheon of high grade pipe carvers.

He lives in California with his wife and five children.
